Hundreds attend QCRI's first Creative Space Fair

Attendance at inaugural event shows 'buoyant interest' in computing in Qatar.

More than 280 people have attended QCRI’s first Creative Space Fair, an event held to encourage school-aged kids to get into coding activities.

The fair, held at the Hamad Bin Khalifa University Research Complex on Saturday, March 10,  was packed with fun and innovative activities.

QCRI’s Director of Educational Activities Eman Fituri said the response to the event showed a buoyant interest in computing in Qatar.

“We are so pleased at QCRI with the response our Creative Space events get. The kids love coming here – it is great to see them so interested in computing and to encourage them to get involved as early as possible, “ Dr. Fituri said.

Saturday’s activities included a littleBits playground, building bubble machines, creating 3D objects and battery-operated critters, and coding with Anki Cozmo, a toy robot. Some of the more advanced exercises for older kids included building mobile apps using App Inventor, developing with Arduino, and making hologram projectors to display 3D hologram images on their tablets and phones.

QCRI’s Creative Space was launched just a year ago and so far, all of its activities have been filled within a day of being publicized.
